The Surface may have a Marvell Wifi adapter. Unfortunately, if Device Manager does not detect a Wifi Adapter a driver cannot install. If you see these then your Wifi adapter is good and something in the Windows OS is borked. Clicking on the Wifi icon in the lower right will show available networks.
Once you are at the Mint Desktop you should get a banner saying Wifi was detected. Select Eject.įollow these instructions on booting a Surface from a USB flash drive. Open This PC or Computer and right click the virtual DVD drive. Tap or click your network, and tap or click Connect.
If Wi-Fi settings are visible: Make sure that Wi-Fi is set to On and that your network name appears in the list of available wireless networks. If Wi-Fi settings are still missing: Go to Solution 3. You could confirm if this is hardware by booting a live linux distro from a USB and see if it detects your Wifi adapter. I have a cheap generic bought off ebay and the signal is still excellent even in the basement.
You can get yourself a USB dongle but it does not have bluetooth capability. This seems to be a common problem with the Surface.
